Proposed Aberdeenshire Green Belt Inadequate

The Green Belt allocation for the emerging 2021 Aberdeenshire Development fails to protect large areas of countryside to the south, and west of Westhill. The plan does allocate an area of Green Belt to the east of Westhill which covers all the Aberdeenshire land to the boundary with the City; from Lawsondale thorough Brodiach, Mains of Kinmundy and northwards to Kinellar and close to Blackburn.

No Greenbelt to the West and South or Westhill

However, the allocation does not identify Green Belt between Westhill and Skene, this area must surely be identified as Green Belt to prevent the coalescence of these communities. Also, it does not include a large area of land to the south of Westhill; land running from Eastside to Backhill – land which is subject to a developer bid which seeks to build 2,500 on this green field site (with a further number of homes into the Aberdeen City area along the A944).

A further developer bid seeks to fill the green space between Westhill and Garlogie/Loch of Skene.

We will inform you as further consultation is taken in the development of the 2021 Aberdeenshire Local Development Plan.
