Judicial ReviewLegal ChallengeNo Kingsford StadiumPlanning Update

£64,000 raised and more info to come soon

It’s been an incredible couple of weeks – we are now at over £64,000 for our judicial review costs, and our £70,000 target is now well within our sights. Please help us get there! It is apparent that Aberdeen City Council has failed to correctly determine this application on multiple legal points. Add to this the perversity that no other reasonable local authority would have granted this application, and we have a case with a real prospect of success. It is likely, over the next few days, that the Evening Express will carry an article making a number of claims about the Judicial Review process. We wanted to let you know that, right now, we are keeping our powder dry and not answering any detailed questions about our case. The press will print what they want to belittle our campaign and be supportive of AFC – after all they sell papers because of them. But we do wonder, why the detailed scrutiny of our campaign? Why not apply the same scrutiny to AFC and their intentions to deny affordable homes to Aberdeen residents or their blatant disregard for planning policy and local planning? Earlier this week, we published an article on developers’ bids that have been submitted to Aberdeenshire Council. These bids included a large quantity of housing bids – 5,211 houses – plus 2 x Primary Schools and 1 x Secondary School in Westhill alone. However, on closer inspection, you will see bids for 164 houses at Kinmundy and 100 houses at Brodiach on the east side of Westhill, both of which are currently allocated Green Belt sites and adjacent to the proposed Kingsford stadium area. Developers are now using the argument that the AFC stadium is now passed in the Green Belt so this makes building houses on the Green Belt acceptable. The road infrastructure along the A944 is incapable of dealing with further development and as a community we need to come together to protect our environment. We have exciting plans to support this which go beyond our stadium campaign. Watch this space. Help retain this area of Green Belt protecting the divide between Westhill and Kingswells by donating to the fund for the Judicial Review.
